Dedicated to the memory of Alex Ross

This site is a tribute to our Alex. She is much loved and will always be remembered.

Alex was our wonderful daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend. She was only 16 and had everything to live for. She was sociable, lively, caring and kind and loved singing, dancing and acting. We miss her so very much. She brought fun to our lives and we constantly wonder what her life would have been like if it had not been cut so short. What job would she have done? What children would she have had? What would our lives be llke if she was still here?

In September 2005 Alex was admitted to Bristol Children's Hospital where it was discovered that she had a horrible and rare disease, Haemophagaciticlymphohistiocitosis, which I probably haven't even spelt right. She spent a couple of weeks on Ward 35, the adolescent ward at the time and then 4 months in PICU, mostly on life support. It was a terrible time for her and our family. The team at the childrens hospital were wonderful and did all they could for Alex and us. Anna, Alex’s sister, was able to donate stem cells to her in a bone marrow transplant, a wonderful gesture which sadly, although it undoubtedly improved some areas, ultimately could not save her. She died on 15th January 2006.

After she had passed away we decided to keep her memory alive by creating a Star Tribute Fund that would raise money to support the families and children going through similar experiences at the hospital. The support we have had for this from so many people has been amazing. so many people have raised money in her memory, enabling her fund to support so many areas in the hospital from Family accommodation to masssage therapies.

We have been so grateful to everyone who has donated so much money through so many events over the ensuing years. Every effort and penny has meant such alot to the hospital and us. We are always touched by the  thoughtfulness and love shown to Alex in this way and it has certainly helped us too.

Just looking through the list of fundraising events here on this site brings a flavour of all that has happened and yet many more donations and informal events have happpened too. We thank everyone for their continued support. We always wanted the Tribute Fund to be an on going thing and it has so proved to be. Each year we add to the total and know that we are helping the children and families who have to use the Bristol Childrens Hospital.
